For the 1st edition of LUUK, we do not propose an overarching theme,but rather ask: “What is happening right now?”
At the end of day 2, we hope to arrive at a partial map of “what is happening” in our shared and overlapping fields in embodied practices and artistic research.
We start from the notion of current. Current makes us think of electrical impulses traveling along nerves and cables. It makes us feel the flows in bodies of water – human and more-than-human –, also currents of air, in and around bodies come to mind! Current is a (forceful) movement passing through space. What are the main currents of bodies and movement today? What is in movement? What is left out?
Current also relates to time. How does your artistic work engage with what is currently unfolding in your personal, local, and global sphere of influence? Looking back in time is important – past currents may hold relevance today –, and future currents may be proposed – how ought we flow?
A key aim of LUUK's 1st edition is to map currents specific to Estonia, while also tracing those that flow through it, linking us to regional and global movements of bodies, water, air, and power. This perspective maintains a dual focus — local and global — with a sustained awareness of ecological responsibility.
Expectations for presentations
Relevance:Is the presentation about the artistic process, research as /for/through art, or the methodology of artistic practice?
Substantive depth: Does the presentation include analysis and critical reflection, revealing the background and deeper meaning of artistic practice?
Novelty and creativity:Does the presentation introduce novel and experimental methods, techniques, theories and ideas?
Discussion: Does the presentation open opportunities for discussion and inspire other creative practitioners?
